SHAFRE
Skeletal Health Assessment and Fracture Risk Estimator

Unlock the Power of Predictive Analytics for Fracture Risk Assessment

Skeletal Health Assessment and Fracture Risk Estimator (SHAFRE) is a cutting-edge tool designed to enchance the way we evaluate bone health and predict fracture risks. Developed by a team of leading experts in internal medicine, public health, geriatrics, rehabilitation medicine, epidemiology, and data science, SHAFRE offers a comprehensive approach to assessing skeletal integrity and forecasting fracture probabilities.

New Publication: A Clinical Prediction Model for Hip Fractures

We are pleased to announce that a key scientific study, “A Novel Clinical Prediction Model for Hip Fractures: A Development and Validation Study in the Total Population of Sweden”, is now available in eClinicalMedicine. This study has developed and validated a model that accurately predicts the 5-year risk of hip fractures without the need for bone density measurements.

The study is based on data from over 3.3 million individuals in Sweden, using 19 predictors such as age, diagnoses like Parkinson’s disease, and socioeconomic factors. This model is the foundation of the SHAFRE tool on our website, allowing users to calculate fracture risk using a proven, evidence-based approach.

How to use SHAFRE

Entering Patient Information

Fill in the required fields with accurate patient information, including age, gender, weight, height, and relevant medical history.

Answering Risk Factor Questions

Respond to the risk factor questions with either "yes" or "no" as applicable. Ensure completeness and accuracy in providing this information. f you are lacking information, leave it blank, and SHAFRE will adjust the algorithms accordingly.

Bone Density Measurement

If bone mineral density (BMD) measurements are available, select the manufacturer of the DXA scanner used and enter the measurement result from the femoral neck. Alternatively, you can use the T-score based on the female reference value from NHANES III. If BMD measurements are not available, leave this section blank.

Review and Interpret Results

Once all information is entered, review the results generated by the Risk Assessment Tool. Interpret the risk assessment report carefully, considering the patient's overall health status and individual risk factors.

Taking Action

Based on the risk assessment report, formulate appropriate management strategies and interventions to address identified fracture risks. Consult with healthcare professionals for further evaluation and guidance if necessary.
